Russell Dize is Of Counsel to Patrick | Doerr and specializes in intellectual property litigation, including trademarks, copyrights, and licensing. He frequently advises clients on resolving intellectual property disputes, safeguarding trademarks and copyrights, and negotiating license agreements. Additionally, he represents clients in various state and federal courts on a broad spectrum of issues, including trademark disputes before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Russ has been deeply engaged in representing and advising toy inventors and toy companies in disputes related to the submission of toy ideas. He played a pivotal role in the case Design Innovation, Inc. v. Fisher-Price, Inc. (D. Conn. 2006), where his toy inventor clients secured a $1.7 million jury verdict for the misappropriation of a novel toy concept. Over the course of several years, Russ conducted and defended over twenty-five depositions in this case. In a similar dispute, he achieved a six-figure settlement for another toy inventor without initiating litigation.
Russ is also extensively involved in enforcing trademark rights against infringers across various goods and services. He has represented clients in numerous proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) to oppose or cancel trademark applications or registrations. Additionally, he has actively enforced copyright rights, particularly concerning toy and game products, both domestically and internationally.
